Hoshang Shah Ghauri

Hoshang Shah Ghauri
(?-1432)
Originally known as Alp Khan, he was the son of Dilawar Khan Ghauri. Alp Khan suc-ceeded his father on the throne of Malwa in 1405 with the royal title Sultan Hoshang Shah Ghauri. During his reign of 27 years, Hoshang Shah was continuously involved in hostilities with neighboring pow-ers, particularly the sultanate of Gujarat. On one occasion (1407-1408), Sultan Muzaffar Shah (1407-1411) of Gujarat was provoked to invade Malwa and chase away Hoshang from his capital Mandu. Hoshang died in 1432, leaving the sultanate of Malwa to his son Muhammad Ghauri, who was soon overthrown and the throne seized by one of his nobles, Mahmud Khalji.
